Dr. Girish N. Nadkarni is a physician-scientist and clinical informaticist recognized for leadership at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and medicine. He is the Fishberg Professor of Medicine, Chair of the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health, Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health, and the inaugural Chief AI Officer of the Mount Sinai Health System.
Dr. Nadkarni has published more than 460 peer-reviewed papers and 52 invited articles, with over 40,000 citations and an h-index of 93. His work has shaped precision cardiovascular and kidney care, advancing applications of AI such as electrocardiogram-based outcome prediction, AI-bioprognostics for kidney disease, and studies of APOL1 genetic risk. His research also explores the real-world impact of predictive AI in healthcare. An entrepreneur, he has co-founded several AI-driven companies, including ventures with FDA-cleared technologies. He is principal investigator on seven NIH R01 grants and multiple contracts totaling ~$40 million and holds numerous patents, including co-invention of the first FDA-approved AI-bioprognostic for kidney disease. Dr. Nadkarni’s influence extends through leadership roles, including Chair of the Taskforce on AI/Digital Health and Associate Editor of NPJ Digital Medicine. He is also a dedicated mentor and recipient of honors including the ANIO Rising Star Award and the Harold Lamport Clinical Research Award.
